Tiny Ducklings in Danger

Tiny Ducklings in Danger

The Brave Little Ducklings’ Journey to the Lake

Some journeys are much bigger than they look.

Five tiny ducklings were about to learn that the world outside the swamp was full of danger, surprises, and kind hearts too.

Spring had filled the lake with water until it spread deep into the forest. A little wild teal duck had made her nest safely on a small grassy mound far away in the swamp woods.

But now the water was going down.

And that meant the mother duck had to lead her five fluffy ducklings all the way to the lake. It was a long trip for such tiny feet.

The ducklings waddled behind their mother in a neat little line, peeping softly as they crossed muddy paths and thick grass.

A Long Walk Through the Wild

The mother duck stayed alert every second.

Whenever they crossed open places where hawks could see them from the sky or foxes might hide nearby, she walked behind the ducklings carefully, watching every direction at once.

She was nervous.

But she kept going.

Because the lake was waiting.

Trouble Near the Village

Soon the duck family came close to the village road near a noisy blacksmith’s forge. Clang! Clang! Sparks flew into the air while the ducklings hurried across the dusty path.

Just then, some village boys noticed them.

“Ducklings!” one boy shouted.

The children ran toward the tiny birds, laughing loudly. They tossed their hats into the air and tried to trap the little ducklings underneath.

The frightened ducklings scattered everywhere.

Peep! Peep! Peep!

The mother duck panicked.

She rushed back and forth with her beak open, flapping her wings helplessly. She wanted to save her babies, but she could not fight all the boys at once.

The boys laughed as they picked up the ducklings one by one.

And then something changed.

The Man Who Stepped In

A man walking nearby saw what was happening and quickly came closer.

“What are you boys doing?” he asked firmly.

The boys froze.

One of them looked down at the scared duckling in his hands.

“We… we were just playing,” he muttered quietly.

The man frowned.

Playing? Those ducklings are trying to reach the lake with their mother. Why would you frighten them?

The boys suddenly felt ashamed.

Should we let them go? one asked softly.

That is exactly what you should do, the man replied. Now quickly, return every duckling to their mother.

The boys nodded immediately.

This time, they did not laugh.

They carefully carried the tiny ducklings back across the field.

Mother Duck Waits

Far away on a grassy hill, the mother duck sat trembling with worry. Her beak was still open from fear.

The moment the children placed the ducklings safely on the ground, the mother hurried toward them as fast as she could.

She made soft little sounds to her babies in duck language, almost as if she were counting them.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

Five.

All safe.

The ducklings quickly gathered around her again.

Without wasting another second, the mother duck led her family through the tall oat field, away from the village and toward the shining lake.

The danger was finally behind them.

Goodbye Ducklings

The man smiled warmly as he watched the little family continue their journey.

He took off his hat, waved it high in the air, and called out:

“Have a safe trip, ducklings!”

The boys burst into laughter.

But the man turned to them and said, “Why are you laughing? Do you think such a long journey is easy for tiny ducklings?”

The boys became quiet again.

“Take off your hats,” the man told them, “and say goodbye properly.”

Slowly, the children lifted their dusty hats into the air.

And together they shouted with big smiles:

“Goodbye, ducklings!”

The ducklings never looked back.

They kept waddling toward the water, together as a family.

And somehow, every person standing there felt happy watching them go.
