Wind and sun

The Sun and the Wind’s Big Challenge

Have you ever tried to win an argument by shouting louder and louder? Sometimes that only makes things worse. One chilly afternoon, the mighty North Wind learned a lesson he would never forget.

Wind and sun

A Loud Argument in the Sky

Far above the hills and forests, the North Wind swirled angrily through the clouds. The bright golden Sun watched quietly from behind a soft gray cloud.

“I am the strongest force in the world!” boomed the Wind.

The Sun smiled gently. “Strength is not always about force,” she replied calmly.

The Wind spun faster. “Then let’s test it!”

Just then, they spotted a traveler riding down a long dusty road on his horse. He wore a thick brown cloak to protect himself from the cold air.

“The first one to make the traveler remove his cloak wins,” said the Sun.

The Wind grinned wildly. “Watch this!”

The Wind Tries His Best

The North Wind took a deep breath and blasted icy air across the road.

WHOOSH!

The traveler nearly lost his hat. He grabbed his cloak tightly and wrapped it closer around his body.

“Oh, what terrible weather!” he muttered.

But the Wind only grew angrier. He blew harder and harder. Cold rain splashed down from the clouds. Snowflakes swirled through the air.

The poor traveler shivered and pulled his cloak tighter than ever. He even tied it around himself with a belt so it would not fly away.

The Wind howled in frustration.

“Why won’t he let go?” he shouted.

No matter how fiercely the Wind blew, the traveler refused to remove his cloak.

At last, the tired Wind slowed down and drifted away with a grumble.

The Sun Takes a Turn

Then the gentle Sun floated out from behind the clouds.

Warm golden light spread across the hills. The rain stopped. The snow melted away. Birds began chirping in the trees beside the road.

The traveler looked up and smiled.

“Ah, this feels wonderful,” he said happily.

Slowly, he loosened the belt around his cloak. Soon he removed it completely, folded it neatly, and tied it to his saddle.

The horse trotted calmly down the road as the traveler enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Above the clouds, the Wind stared in surprise.

A Gentle Lesson

The Sun looked kindly at the Wind.

“You see,” she said softly, “kindness and warmth can do far more than anger and force.”

The Wind became quiet. For the first time, he understood.

Being loud and harsh did not make him stronger.

Sometimes, gentleness was the greatest power of all.

Moral of the Story

Kindness and gentleness are more powerful than anger and force.

3 Key Lessons

  1. Being harsh does not always help you succeed.
  2. Kindness can change people more easily than anger.
  3. True strength comes from patience and warmth.
