| The Journey to Grandma's Village |
Summer had arrived, and our family was excited to visit Grandma in her cozy village.
We packed our bags and brought two special companions with us: Chapka the dog and Usik the kitten.
Everyone needed a ticket for the train. Chapka even got her own dog ticket.
Usik, however, rode for free.
Dad laughed and said, “Looks like Usik is traveling without paying!”
I giggled. How could a tiny kitten ride anywhere without paying?
By evening, we arrived at Grandma's house and fell asleep dreaming about the adventures waiting for us.

| Getting Ready to Fish |
The next morning, we hurried to the river.
Before fishing, we needed worms for bait.
Chapka enthusiastically scratched at the ground with her paws while I collected worms into a glass jar.
Masha stood nearby, making a face.
“I’m not touching those!” she said.
“But they don't bite,” I laughed.
Still, Masha stayed far away.
Soon we were ready.
I carried the fishing rods.
Chapka proudly carried the jar of worms.
Masha and Usik carried absolutely nothing.

| The Singing Problem |
We found a peaceful spot beside the river and sat down.
I carefully placed a worm on my hook and cast my fishing line into the water.
Then we waited.
And waited.
And waited.
Suddenly Masha began singing at the top of her lungs.
“La la la la la!”
The fish must have heard her because none of them came near my hook.
When she finally stopped singing, my line suddenly moved.
“A fish!” I shouted.
I pulled as hard as I could.
A tiny fish appeared above the water.
But before I could catch it, splash!
It slipped off the hook and swam away with my worm.

| Fish at Last |
A little later, Masha wandered away to pick wildflowers.
The river became quiet.
Almost immediately my fishing rod bent.
Then another time.
Then again!
One fish.
Two fish.
Three fish!
I even caught a frog.
“Now we're having some luck!” I said proudly.
The frog blinked at me as if it were surprised to be there.

| Chapka the Hunter |
Just as things were going perfectly, a large duck suddenly burst out of the reeds.
Flap! Flap! Flap!
Before anyone could react, Chapka leaped into action.
Woof!
She raced after the duck as fast as her legs could carry her.
We stared in amazement.
“Since when is Chapka a hunting dog?” Masha asked.
Nobody knew.
The duck escaped, but Chapka looked very proud of herself.

| The Missing Fish Mystery |
While everyone watched Chapka's exciting chase, somebody else was busy.
Very busy.
Usik.
The little kitten quietly sneaked over to my jar.
One fish disappeared.
Then another.
Then another.
By the time we noticed, all three fish were gone!
Usik sat nearby licking his whiskers with complete innocence.
Only the frog remained.

| A Funny Ending |
We walked home with only one frog to show for our hard work.
When we reached Grandma's garden, I gently released the frog.
It hopped away happily through the flowers.
As for Masha and Usik?
I decided they might not be the best fishing partners after all.
But secretly, I knew the day would become one of my favorite memories.
