The Snow Begins to Melt
It was the middle of the day, and the sun shone brightly across the snowy land.
The warm rays slowly melted the snow. Everyone knew that in just a few days, spring would begin to wake up.
Around a small mobile home, the snow looked strange. It was covered with tiny black specks.
"Someone must be burning coal nearby," people thought.
But when they leaned closer, they discovered something surprising.
The black dots were not coal at all.
They were hundreds of tiny bugs hopping and crawling across the snow.
As soon as a shadow passed over them, they jumped in every direction.
Nature was already beginning to wake up.

An Early Awakening
Deep beneath the snow, hidden under the frozen ground, a little pink frog was sleeping peacefully.
As meltwater trickled down through the snow, it reached the frog's cozy winter shelter.
The frog blinked his eyes.
He stretched his tiny legs.
Then he looked around.
"Spring is here!" he croaked happily.
Without waiting another moment, he crawled out from under the snow.
Like all frogs, he knew exactly where he wanted to go.
"The swamp!" he thought excitedly.
And off he hopped.

Tracks Across the Snow
That night, fresh snow gently covered the ground.
The next morning, the frog's footprints could be seen clearly.
At first, the trail went straight ahead.
Hop.
Hop.
Hop.
Each tiny footprint pointed toward the nearest swamp.
But suddenly, something strange happened.
The tracks began twisting.
They crossed over each other.
They zigzagged left and right.
Soon they looked like a tangled ball of yarn spread across the snow.
"What happened?" anyone would wonder.
Why had the frog abandoned his path?

Winter's Last Attack
The answer lay farther along the trail.
There, on the cold snow, was the little frog.
His tiny legs were stretched out.
He was completely still.
During the night, winter had returned.
A sharp frost swept across the land.
The cold stung the little traveler.
He hopped one way.
Then another.
He tried desperately to find warmth.
At last, he turned around, hoping to return to the safe place where he had awakened.
But the freezing night was stronger than he was.
The little frog could go no farther.

Helping Spring
The next day, people found the little frog.
"Oh no!" they said.
They carefully picked him up.
First, they tried warming him with their warm breath.
They waited.
And waited.
But the frog did not move.
Then someone had an idea.
"Let's try warm water."
They filled a saucepan with gentle warm water and carefully placed the tiny frog inside.
Everyone watched quietly.
Would it work?

The Traveler Lives Again
Little by little, something wonderful happened.
One leg twitched.
Then another.
The frog blinked.
His toes wiggled.
Soon he was moving again.
The warmth had brought life back into his tiny body.
Everyone cheered.
The little traveler was alive.
Days later, spring truly arrived.
Thunder rumbled in the distance.
Streams flowed freely.
Frogs everywhere began singing their cheerful songs.

Home at Last
When the weather was finally warm enough, the people carried their little friend to the swamp he had wanted to reach all along.
The frog looked around happily.
This time, spring was truly here.
As he disappeared among the reeds, they called after him:
"Live happily, little frog. But next time, make sure spring has really arrived before you begin your journey!"
The frog gave one final hop and vanished into his new home.
